U.S. Capital Markets and the COVID-19 Crisis: A Virtual Roundtable with SEC Chairman Jay Clayton

On Monday June 15, 2020, the Program on International Financial Systems (PIFS) hosted U.S. Capital Markets and the COVID-19 Crisis: A Virtual Roundtable with SEC Chairman Jay Clayton. The event began with a virtual fireside chat between Jay Clayton, Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and Hal Scott, President of PIFS and Emeritus Professor at Harvard Law School. The conversation was followed by two roundtable discussion sessions. The first discussion, on maintaining orderly and resilient trading markets, was led by Joe Mecane, Head of Execution Services at Citadel, and Brett Redfearn, Director of the Division of Trading and Markets at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The second discussion, on the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on ETFs and money market mutual funds, was led by Barbara Novick, Vice Chairman of BlackRock, and David Scharfstein, Edmund Cogswell Converse Professor of Finance and Banking at Harvard Business School.
